Title IV
November is Native American Heritage Month. There are over 500 Federally recognized Native Nations in the United States, with their own languages, customs and governments. During Native American Heritage Month, we will INQUIRE about what makes these Nations similar and what are the differences. One thing that brings people of all different Nations together is a Pow wow.

WHAT IS A POW WOW?
Pow Wows are the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships, and making new ones.  This is a time method to renew Native American culture and preserve the rich heritage of American Indians. There are several different stories of how the powwow was started. Some believe that the War dance Societies of the Ponca and other Southern Plains Tribes were the origin of the powwow. Another belief is that when the Native American tribes were forced onto reservations the government also forced them to have dances for the public to come and see. Before each dance they were lead through the town in a parade, which is the beginning of the Grand Entry.

Show Choir
There is a very important Show Choir practice tonight after school. If you are a member of the show choir you must be there, as there is only one more practice before our parade next weekend! If there is a reason that you cannot be at practice, you need to let Mrs. Rego know before you go home today.
